How to use keyboard


A computer keyboard is the most commonly used input device. The component that closely resembles a typewriter is called the keyboard. It has keys which are used to type the data to be entered into the computer. A keyboard has many keys.  Alphabetic keys, Numeric keys, Function keys, Arrow keys, special keys.  You must have used these key while operating your computer. The keyboard, the character on the key gets printed on the monitor screen in the position where the cursor is present. Cursor is the blinking line that can be seen on the screen. It specifies the current position on the screen where the typed character will appear.

F1 - F12


Used to perform special functions that depend on the software being used.


Backspace


Used to erase the character to the left or the cursor position.

Shift


Caps lock off: If pressed simultaneously with a character key, a capitalized alphabet is input.
Caps lock on: It reverses the above effect. Also used to input the upper symbols for keys with two symbols or characters on them.


Caps Lock


Used for keying in capitalized alphabets.

Enter or Return


Used for keying in capitalized alphabets.

Ctrl, Alt


Pressed with other keys, They input special messages to the computer.


Number Lock


Used to activate the numeric keys on the Numeric keypad.

Cursor Keys


Used to move the cursor in the direction indicated.

Home


Used to move the cursor to the left end of the current line.

End


Used to move the cursor to the end of the current line.

Page Up


Used to move the cursor up one page or one screen.

Page Down


Used to move the cursor down one page or one screen.

Insert


Used to insert characters at the current cursor position.

Scroll Lock


Used to allow scrolling in a document.

Esc


Depends on the application. Usually used to cancel a command.


Delete


Used to delete characters at the current cursor position.

Print Screen


Used to print whatever is displayed on the screen.
