LCM

We call LCM the least common multiple. The LCM of any two or more numbers is a small small number in which their numbers are completely divided.

 HCF

The hcf of any two or more numbers is the largest number in which their numbers are completely divided.

We can extract LCM & HCF in two ways, first factor method and second part method.

lcm and hcf problems with solutions

If we learn some ways that we can easily find questions related to LCM & HCF

  • If the number is given as p / q then how to extract the number LCM.

                            LCM of numerator
       LCM   =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                           HCF of denominator
Example

  • What will be the LCM of 3/4, 6/7, 8/9
               LCM of numerator -  3, 6, 8  = 24
              HCF of denominator- 4, 7, 9 = 1

                            LCM of numerator
       LCM   =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                           HCF of denominator

       LCM   =     24/1 = 24

  • If numbers are in the form of decimal fractions, convert them into ordinary fractions.Then solve according to the above trip

                            LCM of numerator
       LCM   =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                           HCF of denominator

Example
  • What will be the LCM of 2.41, 3.25, 3.1
ordinary fractions = 241/100, 325/100, 31/10
                               then
                            LCM of numerator
       LCM   =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                           HCF of denominator

  LCM of numerator   =  241, 325, 31 = 2428075
  HCF of denominator= 100, 100, 10 = 10

      LCM                =        2428075/10 = 242807.5

  • If the question is in the form of p / q then how to find HCF.
  • If numbers are given as decimal fractions, first convert them into ordinary fractions and then apply this rule even after that you will get the question solved.
                             HCF of numerator
       HCF    =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                           LCM of denominator

Find the HCF of 2/3, 4/6, and 3/7 ?

               HCF of numerator     =      2, 4, 3    = 1
              LCM of denominator =      3, 6, 7    = 42
                             HCF of numerator
       HCF    =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                           LCM of denominator

                             1
       HCF    =      ⎻⎻⎻
                            42

  • As we have been given a question, if the first number is a, LCM b and HCF C, find the second number.In this case, there is a simple formula to solve the question, through which you can easily solve.
                                            LCM b  x   HCF C
       second number  =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                                                 first number

                                                 b  x   C
        second number  =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                                                     a

 If the first number is 25, LCM 20 and HCF 5, find the second number.

                                                 b  x   C
        second number  =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                                                     a

                                                 20  x   5
        second number  =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                                                     25

                                                    100
        second number  =      ⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻⎻
                                                     25

        second number  =      4

NOTE :     The product of  LCM & HCF of any two given numbers is the same as the product of those given numbers.
